To compliment your hair care routine, we recommend our Superior Hair accessories designed to maintain your extensions:
Bristle Brush: Gently detangles and smooths your extensions without causing damage, leaving a sleek, polished finish.
Tail Comb: Ideal for precise parting and styling — a versatile tool for both natural hair and extensions.
Detangling Loop Brush: Specifically designed for extensions, this brush glides through hair without pulling on bonds or wefts.
Croc Clips (4-Pack): Your styling essential — perfect for clean sectioning and keeping hair out of the way during styling.
Choosing Extension Friendly Products
To maintain your hair extensions effectively, it's essential to choose the appropriate products for washing and styling. Unlike natural hair, which receives nutrients from the scalp, hair extensions depend on the application of extension-friendly products to remain lustrous and last longer. Organic products are generally safe bets, and those specifically formulated for dry or damaged hair are particularly beneficial, helping to preserve moisture and nourish the extensions.
Steer clear of products with parabens, sulfates, and alcohols, as these can harm the extensions, leading to dryness, matting, frizz, and tangles. Argan oil is often recommended for maintaining hair health, but it's important to use it sparingly. Similarly, be moderate with styling products like hairspray, wax, and gel, which can build up over time and necessitate more frequent washing. This increased washing can shorten the lifespan of your extensions.
Protecting Your Extensions from Sunscreen & Sun Exposure: Sunscreen is essential for skin protection, but certain formulas can discolor hair extensions, leaving them with an unwanted orange or pink tint.
To prevent this:
- Avoid Sunscreens with Avobenzone & Oxybenzone – These chemicals react with hair, causing staining. Use Mineral-Based Sunscreens – Look for zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as safer alternatives.
- Tie Your Hair Back When Applying Sunscreen – Keep extensions away from direct contact with sunscreen to minimize buildup.
- Rinse After Swimming – If you’ve been in the sun or pool, rinse your extensions with fresh water to remove any residue.
By following these care tips, you can extend the life of your Superior Hair extensions, keeping them soft, silky, and looking as flawless as the day you got them!
Coloring Process
Coloring Your Superior Hair Extensions
While coloring Superior Hair Extensions isn’t recommended, it is possible if done with caution & safety. We strongly suggest using our complimentary shade matching services to avoid the need to dye.
If you choose to color your extensions, please note:
- Any damage caused during the coloring process will void the warranty.
- Always perform a patch test on a small section before coloring the entire weft.
- Never use dye to lighten the extensions. Our hair is likely already pre-lightened, and further bleaching can cause irreversible damage.
If you’re looking to achieve a lighter tone, we recommend following our Hair Washing Guide, substitute your usual shampoo with a gentle purple shampoo (make sure to do it in a basin) and use products that are free from alcohol, parabens, and sulfates.
Washing Your Hair Extensions
All Superior Hair Extensions are crafted from 100% Remy human hair; however, they shouldn't be washed in the same manner as your natural hair. Soft & gentle is the ultimate way to go!
For Ready-to-Wear Extensions, such as Clip In Extensions and Halo Weft Extensions, a wash is only necessary every 15 to 20 wears. They're less prone to getting dirty because they don't produce natural oils like your scalp.
For Semi-Permanent Extensions, which aren't easily removed, you can wash them somewhat like your regular hair, but it's recommended to limit washing to 2-3 times a week. When you do wash them, massage gently and avoid using shampoos containing parabens, alcohol, sulfates, proteins and especially Keratin products! These are all ingredients that strip the hair down.
More Tips & Information
Brushing
If not our Bristle Brush OR Detangling Brush, a wide-tooth comb or tangle teezer are the recommended tools for brushing your extensions.
Always brush your extensions softly before and after use to ensure you remove tangles.
Brush from the ends and work your way up.
Take your time when brushing through knots. Pulling may cause damage to your extension.
Don’t brush your extensions while they are wet. Always brush hair dry.
Heat & Styling
You can style your hair extensions with hot tools just like you would your natural hair.
Always use a heat protectant on your extensions before applying hot tools.
Don’t go overboard with styling products as these build up over time.
Your extensions come silky smooth from the packet unless you specifically order curly options.
Storing
Use a storage box or case to protect your extensions from external grime while not in use.
Keep extensions in a cool, dry place.
Avoid storing extensions in direct sunlight.
Make sure your extensions are 100% dry before storing.
